This package contains tools to help you convert a URL-based form into a locally installed URN-based form.

1. Unpack the ZIP and copy all files to a new folder

2. Open the new folder

3. Copy the URL-based form (XSN) that you want to convert into the folder.

4. Double click RemoveHRef.exe and browse to the XSN. Click RemoveHRef. (Note: you need to be computer admin to run this tool).

5. Start a Windows command shell as an admin - click start, type cmd into search, right click the black icon that appears in the start menu and choose run as administrator).

6. Change directory in the command tool to the new folder. Use the "cd" command to do this. For example, "cd c:\temp\URNforms" will change directory to the new URNforms folder underneath your temp folder. Note, you don't need the double quotes. Just type it in and hit the Enter key.

7. Close all InfoPath sessions and make sure InfoPath.exe is not running (Start Task Manager and verify)

8. In the command shell, type "wscript install.js sample.xsn" where sample.xsn is the name of xsn that you want to convert. For example, if this is HelloWorld, you would type everything between the two double quotes "wscript install.js HelloWorld.xsn" and hit enter.

9. Click OK or Yes to the dialogs that appear.

You have now converted your form to run locally. To run the form, just start the InfoPath Filler and scroll down to the installed forms section at the bottom and click it.

Now, to reinstall a form in a different folder, you will first have to uninstall the previous:

10. To uninstall, repeat steps 5-9 above but replace "install.js" with "uninstall.js".

11. To install the same form from a new folder, copy it into the folder where you have the URNforms tools and repeat the above steps 5-9. Or, you can copy the tools into the folder where it is and run it from there.

What about existing XML forms?

You will need to fixup their processing instructions using our Modify InfoPath PI tool. Good news is that this can be used on a folder with XMLs in it. In other words, you can run it in batch mode.

Here's a link to Qdabra's Webstore where you can purchase the tool: http://www.qdabra.com/webstore/p/11/qdabra-modify-pi-processing-instruction-tool-for-infopath

You don't need to the tool. You can manually edit the XML. Open in notepad and replace the href="..." with href="HelloWorld" where HelloWorld is the name of the form that you have installed. If you are unsure of the name, open the XSN in the designer and click on File->Info->Form Template Properties. That's the name the URN based form is installed under. Save the XML out and double click it. Should open with the URN-based form.

Happy Trails!
