You can find out if it is read only using XDocument.IsReadOnly. See this MSDN entry for more.

If you add an on after change event to the node that you are concerned with tracking, you can get the original value using eventObj.OldValue and the new value using eventObj.NewValue.

I think you can use e.ToString() to get the stack trace... at least that's what I'd do in C#.

I'm working on a Web-Enabled Form that I'd like to have a dropdown or combobbox field to select other users configured within AD in order to assign a Workflow Task to them. I've found some ways to get the Current AD User info, but no way to return a list of other AD Users (using for example AD Web Services). Any thoughts?

You may need to use more than one repeating table and some conditional formatting to show / hide rows. If your data source has an ID column that is auto populated, you might be able to base the conditional formatting off whether that field has a value.   In order to maintain the same fields and manifest, you need more than just the manifest file.  There are also XSD and XML files that need to be maintained in order for the form to work. Why don't you just use File->Save as... from the InfoPath designer to save your XSN as a new form, and then go on redesigning the layout?  ...
