Mailto Links cause IE page cannot be displayed but open outlook item

So we have a few mailto links within our infopath 2010 browser form and when clicking the mailto link, the behavior exhibited is unwanted... The form populates the mailto: into the address bar of IE then says page cannot be displayed, instead of staying on the form.

There are various other people that have posted about this issue (http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/20487/70952.aspx#70952) but changing security settings isn't something that I can do across hundreds or thousands of users within the corporate environment.

Also, other mailto links within sharepoint do not behave this way, only the links on the infopath form.

Clicking the link within firefox works totally fine, but Internet Explorer (8) is what is in this environment and cannot be changed.

Has anyone out there actually resolved this issue?

    Hi David,

The problem of managing thousands of client machines comes up a lot. You can use group policies to force down security settings to a large set of people.

Otherwise, you could use an email data connection on a button instead. You will have to configure the data connection to dynamically take the name of the user.

Thanks for the reply. I will try a button and dynamically control the email, see how that works. Maybe it is a trust issue and making the form administrator approved would be the difference.
