After a lot of hair pulling buckets of coffee and the grinding of my teeth i now look like the clown from Steven kings IT but i fixed the problem. I own my now stunning good looks to none other than Internet Explorer 7. From what I can deduce the printing feature in IE7 conflicts with InfoPath. If anyone is experiencing this problem and you have ...

Thanks for the quick reply, it works for plain text, but it doesn't work for a section that has text box controls in it.
Is there a way for the default value to display both text that can be edited and controls?

If you look at the documentation/help for PrintOut, you see that it is a ''security level 3'' method. That means that your form needs to be 'full trust' to use it.
Set your form to be full trust (Tools | Form Options | Security). This will require you to sign your form, register your form, or create an MSI to install it. You should be able to ...

Don't load it that way.
1. Create a data connection to the XML file (sounds like you've already done that).
2. Use the GetDOM() method to load your XML DOM into a variable.
3. You might need to set namespaces--if so, do that.
4. Access your XML DOM the same as you would the main DOM from the XDocument object.

Sorry -- you will need to use code-behind. The reason is that rules cannot insert a new row into your repeating section--it can only update values of existing rows.
If all you want to do is change an existing value (which is not really a log), then you can use rules. If you want to add a new row with the new values, then you need code-behind.

If you right-click the text box and choose Properties, on the Data tab there's a Default Value field that you can put your text into. This value will always appear when the field is first inserted. The user can then change it to whatever they want.
If you don't want an actual value (that would be saved with the form) you can go to the Display ...

You said you are on SP1. I would highly recommend being on SP2. Not that that will make a difference on this particular issue--but it might. SP2 has a number of bug fixes over SP1 (no new additional features).
So--this happens even when you create a brand-new form from scratch. Let me have you try this: Instead of working on just InfoPath, try ...

I'm trying to create an optional section that contains default text that users can edit after they've inserted the section. If anyone can tell me how to do this I would greatly appreciate it.
It's for a contract form, and I need for users to be able to insert certain language and then edit it to suit the needs of the contract.
Thanks again for ...
