    Print orientation problem (Please Read)

My print orientation on every form is stuck on portrait even though the landscape option is selected even in printer properties. This issue never existed before. I read similar issues in this forum and tried to apply the fix suggested but when i went to look for the line of code to modify it doesn't exist in the manifest.xsf file. I have close to 50 or so forms and all of them are acting the same way. I even tried creating a new form and it still acting the same as the rest also in my search for the solution I did a detect and repair resetting all settings and nothings changed. Can someone please help I#%92m at a loss of ideas.

Could it possibly be a problem with your print driver or printer -- rather than with InfoPath?

No, It's with infopath everything else prints fine and page orientation can be changed with no problem.

One other important question: Does it do this on just this one computer or on others as well? If it is on all computers, then there's likely an issue with the manifest.xsf file. Otherwise, there's something messed up on this particular PC or its software.

It does it on all machines. what has to be done to the manifest file to repair the issue?

Here are some more clues if anyone is listening. I've uninstalled InfoPath and reinstalled it. then i tried to open an InfoPath form it didn't let me without SP1 so I installed SP1 and opened a form and tried to change the orientation and it didn't change also i decided to create a new form published it and still was not able to change page orientation. Now after installing a fresh copy of the software and creating a new form is it a problem with all my 40+ forms that didn't have the problem before or is there something else that's preventing the page orientation change that's only isolated to InfoPath?

You said you are on SP1. I would highly recommend being on SP2. Not that that will make a difference on this particular issue--but it might. SP2 has a number of bug fixes over SP1 (no new additional features).

So--this happens even when you create a brand-new form from scratch. Let me have you try this: Instead of working on just InfoPath, try other Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. See if any of those have the same issue.

After a lot of hair pulling buckets of coffee and the grinding of my teeth i now look like the clown from Steven kings IT but i fixed the problem. I own my now stunning good looks to none other than Internet Explorer 7. From what I can deduce the printing feature in IE7 conflicts with InfoPath. If anyone is experiencing this problem and you have IE7 installed you might want to try uninstalling IE7 it worked for me. Hope this helps someone else and Greg thanks for your help.

    danielr,

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sorry to hear you had such trouble over this. There have been reported issues with IE7 and InfoPath... this is apparently another one. Glad you got it resolved.

I too am experiencing print problems since installing IE7. I am finding that my forms will only print to the default printer. My guess is that the landscape problem is part of the same problem.

You can verify this by uninstalling IE7 and seeing if your issue is fixed.

I too have experienced the same problem with printing in landscape after moving to IE7. It seems like a poor solution to revert to IE6, especially when this would require all 100 users in my organization to also do this. Greg, is there any word on when Microsoft might fix this problem?

Here's the email I got from Microsoft:

    Hi Geordie,

I wanted to follow up our phone conversation with an email. Unfortunately, the issue you#%92re encountering, where InfoPath 2003 cannot print in landscape mode when IE7 is installed is a known bug. A hotfix is currently being created for the problem, and hopefully it will be available in a month or two. Unfortunately, hotfixes take a little time to create. When the hotfix is ready, there will be a knowledge base article for it so you#%92ll be able to find it.

I#%92ve submitted this case for a refund since this is a known bug, and you should see the refund on your next credit card statement. It was a pleasure to work with you on this case. I hope you were delighted with the support I provided.

    Thanks,
