Hello
Datavalidation works only when the Users enter Invalid data, but tab past this field doesnt mean that you enter Invalid data. Checking the validation rule ''CANNOT BE BLANK'' will make the field as required.
If you want you can put a condition to prevent the form to be submitted as long as the field is blank

Is there a function that I can run in a text string field that will be automatically populated every time a new form from a template is created? Ideally it would be a number picked from the form last created using this template (if it's of any help - the form is stored on the SharePoint site)
cheers!

Hi DuneBug,
Does the form have code in it? Sounds like it has a COM ActiveX control in the form that is not trusted or something.

Hi JackInTheGreen,
Not easily. Certainly you could write some code to get the window handle for the dropdown and get handle events from that. The code would have to use the HTML object model. It would be tricky and error prone since the drop down control may change if you change the InfoPath view and it might be difficult to get it in the first ...

Hi Basescu,
''Email'' is just the name of the adapter. There is an e-mail envelope which you can set values for programmatically by dereferencing oEmail. Have you read the InfoPath 2003 SDK? If not, it has lots of examples. There's a link on our Resources page. We also have code in the book: ''Developing Solutions with InfoPath'' which shows you ...
