Tried a hidden field in the form data source but i get an error when incrementing this...
When i look at current item fields i only see title and name available... none of the others
selecting my form then find the list item doesnt work... it doesnt increment from 1... get an error in the form library...

Wow, that's a lot to absorb as well as doing my day job. So the trick is not to re-publish the form to the new project website but to simply save it! That is what i said, you are putting the rules wrong, rules get executed when the values of the field on which the rules are set change. So you should be setting rules on dropdown1, not on dropdown2.
on dropdown1 -> condition if dropdown1 ="hello"
action dropdown2 = 'World"
