 The location (view) of the field should not matter, as long as your formula points to the correct xpath. I've set up my sample to use a calculated field, but you're likely using rules. If this is happening will all forms you create, I can only imagine there's a bigger issue than just your form, possibly a Sharepoint issue, or InfoPath is corrupt and needs repaired.

Hi, You can have a field (in your schema, but not in the canvas) called "CurrentTime". Set that field everytime the form opens. If the CurrentTime is past 9am, then switch to a read only view. Hope this helps!
