Using an XPath expression to select between two or more values can usually get a bit messy. In this case, this should work:
substring(userName(), string-length(substring-before(userName(), "\")) + 2 * contains(userName(), "\"), 100)

I haven't run into this particular error, but what kind of datatypes do the web method's parameters have?

We typically do not recommend using DB connections for the main data source, as this imposes limitations on the layout of the main data source and limits the form in other ways as well.
What we recommend is to query the database through a webservice using a secondary data source. We have developed a generic webservice (QueryDB, part ...

The best way I can picture doing this is to put the entire main data source in a repeating group, and have a non-repeating field outside of the group with a name like CurrentRow. Then you would also put all of your views inside repeating sections that are filtered to only show the row that corresponds to CurrentRow.
Then at the end of the ...

For your first question, I think using the following default value formula for the field should work:
../preceding-sibling::my:repeatingGroupName/my:fieldName
I'd also suggest disabling the control using the condition preceding-sibling::my:repeatingGroupName, so that people can only modify the first row.
For the second question, is there a ...

What is the logic you are using to set HeaderRow to true? Typically a "true" value in XML would be lowercase and not uppercase.
Assuming a value of "true" for HeaderRow to indicate it is blank, I think this formula should work:
substring(count(../preceding-sibling::my:Step[my:HeaderField != ...

Are you encountering a particular issue? If so, what is it? You shouldn't need anything particularly special for File_Layout, though there's a slight chance that WriteElementString() might not work for File_Layout since it's a group. You may want to try writer.WriteStartElement("File_Layout", ...
can you please check with the attached form itself you will come to know the issue.
You haven't yet attached a form with the changes Hilary and I suggested.

Yes, I know what you are looking to do. The conditional formatting goes on the control to hide and the condition involves the checkbox. Typically the simplest way to provide text that can be shown and hidden is to display it in a Calculated Value control.

In InfoPath, you would add a conditional formatting rule on the text:Condition: checkField is not equal to true
Formatting: Hide this control.Any particular reason you posted in this thread? It seems unrelated to your question.
