Hi Kerry,
This will work fine in InfoPath browser forms. I assume that's what you mean when you say "web forms".
Are your checkboxes embedded in the same sections or repeating sections as your employees?
You may need to do some filtering to specify the employee correctly. You may also need to copy data into other repeating ...

Hi Chris and welcome!
ComboBox is not what you want. Why? Because it encodes multiple values, so your comparison will fail since it can't parse out the value you want. Use a stock dropdown instead with one value and it should work just fine.

Hi Rocco Castellano and welcome,
Yes, anything's possible with a little code. You could automate this with a custom workflow. We can help you but it's a bit more involved than a simple forum reply.
Contact me if you'd like to pay for a couple hours of expert time to implement.
Otherwise, happy searching. :)

CAML - out-of-box, but somewhat complex to implement
qRules - third party plugin (free trial), but easier to create/maintain
Qdabra has given free weekly webinars this year showing both techniques.
Here's one from last January showing CAML ...

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the very prompt response!
The thread mentioned does not provide much - my target column is already a Managed Meta data column.
I'm hoping your document would shed more light - I'm failing to open it however (404) : ...

Hi Stuart,
Yeah, sounds like the InfoPath designer didn't clean up correctly.
I would create a new view and copy the old view into it (using Ctrl-A/Ctrl-C, switch view and then Ctrl-V). If that solves your problem, you can set the new view as default and delete the old view.
If not, you may want to spelunk the manifest.xsf. Go to ...
