In this situation you will have to write code as part of your tree selector to first check if the value is allowed in the dropdown, and if not then display the message instead. A few questions:
1) where did you want to display that message? dialog would be easiest and then just ignore the selection.
2) where do you get the values that are listed ...

Hello and welcome again. It's a little hard to follow specifically but I can understand the problem you're encountering. There should be a way to have InfoPath not duplicate the assessments and people each time. My guess is that your DB structure is more advanced than the out of the box IP connection can figure out on its own.
One thing you ...

A very interesting scenario. I'm thrilled to hear you're using the hosted InfoPath control. In this case, you may need to replace your rule with code to display the dialog because the event firing order can't be further controlled. By putting your dialog in code you will be able to handle the ordering yourself.

I found the following which may explain the issue:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888706
You should first apply the InfoPath SP2 upgrade and see if that fixes the issue.

The version is probably not the issue. Did you check ''Allow Nulls'' before you created the form or after? If after then you need to use ''Convert Main Data Source'' to resync the schema of the form to the web service.

Salut Virgul,
From my recollection, there aren't any significant changes if any to the right-click menu or toolbars in IP 2007. Are there any specific items you're thinking about you would have wanted to see change?

Nick,
Welcome to our forum! Unfortunately there are some limitations in InfoPath browser forms in the first release. Filtering is one of them. The following article from MS explains workarounds in the best detail:

Also note, you can use the ''Relink'' view in SharePoint to relink your forms to the published template which also will touch all the files and fix the property promotion. Of course you're not actually relinking b/c the XSN link is probably ok, and all the checkboxes can be tedious. But it's just another possible method.

To be specific, the XML file was saved with a newer version of the template than the one you have.

This is interesting. There isn't actually a way to do this directly. What you'd have to do is create two text boxes with the different formatting and show hide the right one based on the value.
