Add a rule that fires when the field is changed (this is the default, no condition rule). For this rule, add an action to set another value (ideally in a secondary data source). Use that value to conditionally enable or disable validation on the original field. Good luck Tracy!

Hi Jim,
There's no way inside of InfoPath to do that. You'd have to use our Database Accelerator product which keeps a complete history of all templates saved and matches version of XML to XSN.

Hi Deb,
I thought you were trying to do both code/rules from the button properties dialog. I didn't realize you had already defined an OnClick handler. In that case, yes, they will both run, as Greg says. I really think you're better off just doing rules. Why do you need code?

Hi Adam and welcome to our forum,
This is one of the most underrated features of InfoPath. My team worked on it while I was at MS. It is very powerful.

If you end up designing the form first and decide you want to connect it to a database later, take a look at our Database Accelerator product at:http://jp.infopathdev.com/downloads/free/default.aspx?i=4c6d41c47f594c9baada1b40918a306f

To view the security settings go to the menu Tools::Form Options and then select the Security tab.
Then, since you are trying to send it in email that forces restricted security because email is inherently insecure. If you have any external data connections in the form for example, they require at least domain security which is why you'd get ...

You're welcome. :) Hmm, I'm not sure what you're trying in the above. You should not have to manually update the template.xml by extracting the files. There is a little known dialog under Tools::Default Values. Here you can specify the default values for any node and if you want to have multiple default rows you can set the values for each of ...

I think you might be able to do this by writing custom code to directly access Outlook's object model to create the note. You might need to make the form full trust for this to work though.

One thing to remember is that to submit to a database you must start designing the form from a database connection. You can't design the form first then try to connect it to a database unless you write a bunch of code. When you do it that way, InfoPath then automatically sets up the submit data connection for you too.
