    Autonumbering in sequence

I am creating a custom Purchase Order system using infopath and sharepoint.

The template pulls various different lists from Sharepoint however I want to be able to pull the previous purchase order number (a field in the template) from sharepoint, or generate the next number in the sequence.

Can anyone help me with this?

    Thanks
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
I've asked someone to respond to you later today. We have done this before.

    Hi Neil,
Did you find a solution to that problem?
    I have the same problem.

Oops looks like we didn't follow-up. Sorry about that. People pull the unique number from the SharePoint form libraries all the time. We have written code to do this. I need to go find it... just a minute.

Just to clarify, setting up a data connection to the SharePoint list will provide a field for the ID. So, this requires no code.

    Patrick,

Could you explain how you did this please ??

I have exactly the same problem and I already tried to make a data connection to the sharepoint list to get the ID. The only problem is that the data connection requests the default view of this list.

And, in my case, the default view is filtered to show the current user's items only !!!
In addition, this view is limited to 50 elements => the data connection does not return the latest IDs but only the first ones ...

How did you do to get this working ????
Could you share just a little bit of your code ?

    By advance,
    Thanks !!
    Herve.

Hi Herve and welcome to our forum!

You should still be able to get the ID for the item since that's part of the default SharePoint properties and it is independent of a modified default list. However, the 50 elements is more of an issue. This is something that you cannot workaround. Indeed, you have discovered the main limitation of the SharePoint list adapter in InfoPath - it only gets from the default list! My suggestion would be to not customize the default list and keep the count high enough to return all elements. Add a "landing page" with buttons so that people click to navigate to a specific view (without relying on the default view for initial navigation).

To set it up, no code is needed. Just go to Tools->Data Connections in the InfoPath Designer and add a Retrieve data connection bound to a SharePoint list adapter. Specify the site and the form library. Make sure you select the ID from the list of fields. You can then use this ID in your InfoPath form to determine the order of addition for the elements.

    Good luck!
