Windows update breaks Sharepoint Data Connection Access and Template update capability

    Hi all,

This almost killed me, so i wanted to share the solution to help others avoid the same fate.

I have developed an infopath form filler form with soap web services hosted at a stand alone web site. The form has been deployed through SharePoint with the data connections converted into UDC files in a sharepoint data connection library. The forms are being deployed to Window 8 Tablets, and will be accessed from the field, outside the network. Therefore, the form and data connections were deployed to and accessed from the external URL of the SharePoint site through HTTPS.

Everything worked fine on my computer, and when i first deployed them to the tablets they worked fine as well. However, they eventually stopped working. The symptoms were that the data connections started failing, with the message:

The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: ServiceName InfoPath cannot run the specified query. InfoPath cannot connect to the data source. Access is denied.

Also, i was unable to update the form template, either directly from the form, or from the update form option from right clicking on the template in the New File dialog. It also made no difference if I cleared the Cache.

After much gnashing of teeth i determined that i could solve the problem by removing two Microsoft updates, KB2880987 and KB2883052.
