Filler form keeps trying to open in browser

     Hi all,

Tearing my hair out with this one. I have a form library, with a number of InfoPath content types attached to it. I wanted to create a link on another page which would open these forms without having to browse to the form library, click new, select the form.

The forms are set to compatibility mode "InfoPath 2010 Filler Form".

If I go the normal route of browsing to the library, clicking new, then selecting my form, it opens as expected in InfoPath filler.

If I browse to the template location and click on the template file directly, it also opens in InfoPath filler.

So at first I thought I could just create a hyperlink to the template location https://<sharepointsite>/<subsite>/<Library>/<Folder>/template.xsn but clicking the hyperlink attempts to open in browser and displays a message "Error This form cannot be opened in a web browser. To open this form, use Microsoft InfoPath."

    Other links I've tried:

    https://<sharepointsite>/<subsite>/<Library>/<Folder>/template.xsn?OpenIn=Client

    https://<sharepointsite>/<subsite>/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=<subsite>/<library>/<Folder>/template.xsn

    https://<sharepointsite>/<subsite>/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=<subsite>/<library>/<Folder>/template.xsn?OpenIn=Client

All of these end up at the same message: "Error This form cannot be opened in a web browser. To open this form, use Microsoft InfoPath."

In case it matters, the options for both the Form Library and the document Library that houses the templates have the option "Default open behaviour for browser-enabled documents: " set to: "Open in the client application"

I'm not sure what I'm missing. I need the forms to be Filler form, since I'm using functionality not present in browser forms. Is there any way I can have these forms open in filler when using a link?

    Thanks

    James

This is all sounding a little familiar to me - are you using SharePoint 2007? or 2010? I'm gonna go look through some old email. :)

I'm using SharePoint Online (part of Office 365), which as I understand it is basically SharePoint 2013.

Any info you can give would be greatly appreciated.

When I saw this happen, it was an InfoPath 2010 filler form published to a SharePoint 2007 site - same thing, worked fine from New Document or opening the template location, but using a link to the template caused this issue.

Do you have IP 2013 installed? As a test, could you publish an IP 2013 filler form to a different library, and add a test link to that and see what happened?

Ok, I've created an extremely basic InfoPath 2013 Filler form, published it to a different library, and tried all the various links that I listed above, all to no avail. Same message I'm afraid.

I've also tried in Chrome, and get the same results.

Okay - so it isn't a compatibility issue like I saw in 2007 / 2010. I wonder if an IE setting may need to be changed: Internet Options > Programs > Set Programs and see if .xsn is associated with InfoPath?

That's set correctly. Good idea though.

I don't know if this is a step forward or a step back, but I just tried disabling the Office Document Cache Handler browser helper object, from IE and now it simply tries to save/download the template. This behaviour has remained even now the extension is re-enabled.

How about, just for giggles, you try turning on compatibility mode in IE....

Ok, turning on compatibility mode also gives me a download/save prompt.

Hmmmm. I'm about out of ideas, I'm afraid - what version of InfoPath are you using? Did you install from Office 365? I can look and see if this repros on my machine...

Well thanks for your help. I'm using InfoPath 2013 from Office 2013 Pro Plus (Not Office 365).

I'm having similar issues if I'm using IE 11, the link works fine in IE9.  Were you able to find a solution for this?

I did actually, here's how I set my links up:

    ms-infopath:nft|u|https://<sharepointsite>/<subsite>/<library>/<folder>/<form template>.xsn|s|https://<sharepoint site>/<subsite>/<form library>/

Thanks! I got it to launch InfoPath, but it can't find the template. I don't know much about html.. would you be able to help me translate my existing one below to use what you suggested above? Here's what I have. I inserted a content editor webpart on a page and edited the source: "

    " " //_layouts/FormServer.aspx? " " XsnLocation=https://///TemplateCT.xsn&SaveLocation=https%3A%2F%2F//&ClientInstalled=true&Source=https%3A%2F%2F/&DefaultItemOpen=0"> Text Label

    "
