I have two form libraries, "Pending" and "Archive". Once the pending requests are processed, they are automatically moved to the archive. The archive uses the same template as the main form, except all fields are read only and there are no data connections. Unfortunately, the moved forms retain their link to the "Pending" template and need to be relinked once they are moved. Manual relinking works well.

Question: How can I automate the relinking process? Is there and easier way to accomplish the same?

 Did you ever get this figured out?  I have the same issue, but I know your post is pretty old.

There was no way. So I created a different archival process, one that would store the necessary information in a table, without the forms. It wasn't pretty, lost some secondary data, but did the job.

Things might have changed now that three years have passed, but I wouldn't bet on it - Microsoft products don't appreciate people thinking out of the box.
