Using jscript I remove the xsi:nil attribute and set the text value of a date picker to “”.  A red asterisk is displayed in the control screen tip stating “Only date allowed: (example: 2001-03-14)”.  How can I prevent this from happening?

I think you would want to set it to Null rather than a space or blank string.

Setting it to null still exhibits the same behavior.

I just tried it in a form, using rules.

One option is to change your field from a date to a string but if it is linked to a DB you do not have that option.

Setting it to no value with a setfield action works fine. With code you want to use empty.string or an equivalent

Here is some more information:

When the form is first loaded the date picker xml looks like this: 

"<my:ToDt xmlns:my=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/myXSD/2007-11-16T17:42:12\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xsi:nil=\"true\"></my:ToDt>"

After selecting a date via the control then via code changing the text to string.empty the xml looks like this: 

"<my:ToDt xmlns:my=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/myXSD/2007-11-16T17:42:12\"></my:ToDt>"

So I'm guessing I need to get the xsi:nil=true back into the xml?  Can anyone confirm this and provide some insight on how to do this if this is the proper solution.

Have you found a solution to this problem yet? I have come across the exact same issue with an InfoPath form, but cannot see how to set the attribute xsi:nil=true using JScript.
