    Hi

    The connection suceeds and the databases are created sucessfully, however, I'm not sure the BUILTIN\Administrators has the access it requires.

     What else can I check?

    Adam.

    On the machine where DBXL is being installed, there's an Administrator group. That's the BUILTIN\Administrators that gets used by DBXL. So if you're an administrator on the machine, then you'll be a DBXL administrator by default.

    Because the databases are getting created, it seems the SQL part of the installation completes successfully. What might be failing is the DAT activation. Which would explain why you can't access DAT. To setup DAT manually, follow these steps (on the server):

    1. (If on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, run Internet Explorer as Administrator.)
    2. Open the following URL in IE: http://<servername>/QdabraWebService/DbxlAdmin.asmx
    3. Click on PublishDATFormTemplate method.
    4. Enter the path of the DAT-Template form, which is saved to the local drive. In a non-SharePoint default installation, the path will be C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\QdabraWebService\install\DATtemplate. xsn.
    5. Call PublishDATFormTemplate method by clicking on Invoke button. If you have already created Document Types, you must execute two additional steps after calling PublishDATFormTemplate.
    6. Open DAT.
    7. Click Edit and Save for all your DocTypes.

    Which OS are you using, by the way?

    Hi

    Thanks for your swift response, the OS I'm using is Windows XP Professional SP3.

    I manually attempted to setup DAT but at the 'invoke' step, it bailed:

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <StatusInfo xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://qdabra.com/webservices/">
      <Success>false</Success>
    - <Errors>
    - <ErrorInfo>
      <Code>I9999</Code>
      <Description>An unhandled exception was thrown: Data Source=(LOCAL);Initial Catalog=QdabraDBXL;Integrated Security=True</Description>
      </ErrorInfo>
      </Errors>
      <ExecutionTime>00:00:00</ExecutionTime>
      </StatusInfo>

    Interesting isn't it :)

    Hi again Adam,

    Strange: it seems like the installer had permissions to set up the SQL portion of DBXL, but now, when you run it, it lacks the permissions. That's just a guess; perhaps there is more info in the Event Viewer?

    Since this is XP, you should also check that ASPNET has permissions on the SQL database. If it doesn't, add the permissions, uninstall, and reinstall to see if it works.

    Hi

    This could very possibly be the issue:

    Login failed for user 'DP00035\ASPNET'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

    How might one add the permissions to the database for asp ?

    Thanks!

    You can do that by doing this:

    1. Open SQL Server Management Studio Express
    2. Under System DataBases right click on the Qdabra database that you have created and choose properties
    3. On the left pane of the Database properties click on permissions
    4. Add the user name that needed the permission.

    When you install DBXL, the account used to create the databases is the user account you are logged on with.  When the application is running, it connects using the application pool account, which unless you changed it is NETWORK SERVICE.

    Setup will usually grant the NETWORK SERVICE account the db_datareader and db_datawriter role during setup.  Using SQL Management studio, make sure that account has permission to the database.  If you changed the account during setup, make sure that account has permission to the database.  Also check the Qdabra eventlog for additional error information.

    Hi Guys

    Right I've managed to get the permissions sorted but a new error has arisen:

    Form template: http://localhost/QdabraWebService/Forms/DAT/template.xsn
    Access is denied.

    Hopefully this is fairly straight forward to resolve?

    Thanks

    Adam

    Hi Guys

    Looks like a step on but google suggests this is a permissions issue pointing toward the security settings where the zone are concerned.

    The error is:

    DBXL Administration Tool:

    Infopath cannot create, blank form. The system cannot find the files pecified.

    QdNotifications Form:

    Form template: http://dp00035/QdabraWebService/Forms/QdNotification/template.xsn
    Access is denied.

    Any ideas?

    Adam.

    Hi Adam, is your site in the IE Local Intranet zone?

    It looks like you are using IIS5 since you are using the ASPNET account.  Is this installed on XP and have you reviewed the installation notes for XP?

    Please check the web.config in the QdabraWebService folder and search for DocumentHandlerPath, and verify the url is http://dp00035/QdabraWebService/Documents/

    I've confirmed all of the XP happy settings, and I can access: http://DP00035/QdabraWebService/ but not http://DP00035/QdabraWebService/Documents

  • 10-16-2009 09:24 AM In reply to

    Documents is not a physical folder under QdabraWebService and is not browsable.

    Have you corrected the database access error for the ASPNET account?

    Does the eventlog show anything when accessing DAT ? http://DP00035/QdabraWebService/Forms/DAT/template.xsn

    Hi

    It is working!  I clicked on your link and I was asked if I wanted to open a template.  I did and I was presented with the DBXL Administration Tool !

    Great stuff, now I just have to use it :D

    Many thanks all!

    Adam.

    Great to hear it is working now.  You should also be able to bring up the default page which has links to the Admin tool and other helpful information http://DP00035/QdabraWebService/default.htm
