We want you to try it too.

From your last error post have you followed it's suggestions?

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: DCOM
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 10016
    Date:  6/27/2007
    Time:  11:31:13 AM
    User:  COMPANY\USER
    Computer: MOSS_TEST
    Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1}
to the user COMPANY\USER SID (S-1-5-21-1722490270-620562974-1691616715-4085).  This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

It looks like there may be a permissions issue.

Have you looked in Component Services Administrative Tool to grant Local Activation permission?

A simple way to eliminate problems with Sharepoint is to create a separate website on a separate port.  Then install DBXL on that site.

Btw, did you try the steps I recommended about changing the web.config before clicking finish on the setup dialog?

  • 06-28-2007 11:12 AM In reply to

yes, I did try changing the web.config mid install to no avail.  I'll try installing on another site.
  • 06-28-2007 03:39 PM In reply to

OK..I thought maybe the issue I was having was due to some configuration incompatibilites so I created a VM and installed a basic MOSS 2007 site.  Once the setup was complete I ran the Qdabra install and recieved the "text/html" error.  I also tried stopping SharePoint Services and installing but I get the same error as before (error initializing database).  There is no custom configuration on this box or on the site so I'm perplexed as to why I'm having this issue.
  • 06-28-2007 03:52 PM In reply to

Did you try installing on a non-Sharepoint/MOSS site?
  • 06-29-2007 12:56 AM In reply to

    Hi again,

This is a known issue when doing an install with SharePoint. SharePoint registers handlers that interrupt the installation of other Web services on the same site. You could edit the Web.config on the default site to remove the SharePoint lines, do the DBXL install and then add them back (with the Web.config for QdabraWebService updated).

Anyway, I really appreciate your perseverance. Too bad it's hard to install Web services on top of SharePoint. The workaround should work though.

    Good luck!

OK, so I finanlly got this installed successfully on the VM by creating a new SharePoint Site and selecting the new site as the install "site".  Unfortunately, now I seem to be having more problems.

I can access the DBXL admin site fine, but when I attempt to submit a new form I get the error "DAT-Template  Error: Save Unsuccessful   I0033: Access Denied".  I thought maybe this was because I left Document Security as "Builtin\Administrators" by default.  So I thought, no big deal, I'll just uninstall DBXL and reinstall it with different rights....WRONG.  I can't get the uninstall to complete :(  "An exception occurred while uninstalling.  This exception will be ignored and the uninstall will continue.  However, the application might not be fully uninstalled after the uninstall is complete. --> The savedState dictionary contains inconsistent data and might have been corrupted"

Since the uninstall wouldn't complete, I thought I'll just do a repair and change the Document Security settings to what I want...Wrong again, I get an error when finishing this too :(  "The installation failed, and the rollback was performed. --> Count cannot be less than zero.  Parameter name: count"

Woohoo!  I finally got DBXL working correctly.  Since the Uninstall wasn't working I had to go through the registry and remove all the Qdabra keys.  Once I did that, I was able to reinstall fresh and set the permissions correctly.

    Hi JThrasher,

Glad to hear you figured it out. I'm sorry that the uninstall didn't succeed. If you still have the event log, that would be very interesting to look at. Let us know how we can help and if you'd like to see a demo of v2.1 which we hope to release in the near future.

    Cheers!

Hi Duncan, sorry you are having issues.

Typically this is a permissions issue.

The account you are using during the installation should be in the local administrators group.

It needs to have the ability to create the web componenets in IIS.

Also the account DBXL will run under, if you are using the default, the Network Service account, must have access to the directory 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config'  which is what the error here is referring to. Typically by default IIS gives most accounts read and execute permissions.

Check the permissions on your inetpub folder as well as your account.

Typically the Network Service account needs to be added to SQL for DBXL to interact with the tables there so make sure you have done this as well..

The problem arises after running the Repair operation.  This document explains how to workaround the problem by editing the InstallState file:

    Hello everyone.
Trying to install the free developer version of DBXL tonight, and I am also getting the error: "Description: Error Initializing DBXL database.  Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml'."
I have tried the several fixes above (modifying web.config mid-install, modifying Qdabra.Dbxl.Installer.InstallState), but without any luck.

     This is my system information:

    Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600
    IIS 5.1
    SQLSERVER EXPRESS

Looking in the Event Viewer, I seem to be getting this error every time:
    ------------------------
    Exception information:
        Exception type: HttpException
Exception message: The current identity (JIMMY-4D0D1315A\ASPNET) does not have write access to 'C:\WINDOWS2\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files'.

Un-checking the read-only box in the properties for "C:\WINDOWS2....Temporary ASP.NET Files" doesn't help (in fact, all of the folders on my system show a green square (not checkmark) in the read-only box, which reappears if I close and open the properties.  Not sure if this is normal.)

This may be obvious to everyone else here, but I'm not sure why it is trying to access the folder as user ASPNET, or how to give ASPNET write permissions.  I am not myself logged on as ASPNET and did not create a user by that name.

I apologize if this is an elementary question.  I am brand new to Windows web services and somewhat inexperienced with Windows administration.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

    Jimmy
