    Hi soham10,

Unfortunately, this isn't too easy. The only way you can do this is to insert a "Please Select" value into the data source that is populating the list, and then set that as the default selection.

    Hi,

I tried following Matt's suggestion regarding having it default to "Please Select" in the drop down box, but it still defaults to the blank 'value'. What am doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks Matt but how do you make the "Please Select" option in the xml as your default?

If it shows up as one of the choices in the drop-down, then you will add either code or a rule that sets the node that the drop-down is bound on to the value of "Please Select".

Hi Matt - thanks for your reply. But how do i set the rule that sets the node that the drop-down is bound on to the value of "Please Select"?

    HI soham,

I'm not sure what your situation is like, but an OnLoad rule should suffice.

    Hi again

Unfortunately my question (ref# 19591) seems to have been overlooked re issues with lists picking up list information from previous lists.  Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Matt

Thanks for the quick response, and Lord knows I've tried looking through all manner of blogs, forums and questions, but no matter what I try to do the cascading list in a repeating section always picks up the entries from the previous section.  Just to recap, I have an Activity drop down box and an Analysis drop down box.  I created a cascading list (using xml) so when I choose an Activity code in the first box the relevant Analysis codes appear in the second box.  The difficulty is that when I choose a different Activity code in the next section, not only does it shows the relevant Analysis codes, but it also shows the Analysis codes from the previous section.  How can I make it so the drop down list only shows relevant choices and stops my laptop turning into a frisbee?

    Regards

    G

    Hi Grazzers,

Its very good morning for me, I tried 2 days for your solution at last today I got the solution.

Do like this, take an extra field and put a rule on the Activity drop down that if the Activity drop down is not blank then set the fields value as extra field = Activity drop down value.

Now filter the second drop down Analysis value by comparing as Activity field value in the xml is equal to extra field value.

You will get the solution, still have doubt please let me know.

    Have a nice day.

    Hi Grazzers,

The blog is already there, see the link http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/greg/archive/2005/07/14/Create-a-Repeating-Cascading-List-from-a-Hierarchical-Data-Source.aspx wasted a lot of time for this. Actually I tried with current() but done a mistake while taking the field.

     Hope this will help you.

Hi Shiva, That article is very helpful......wonder why i didnt search/look properly. i have a Q - i'm applying the sample logic into my repeating section. i have 2 drop downs city & hotel looking up the values from xml - all works great according to the blog/thread. i wish to introdue a new field (textfield) called address/location which will list the address based the hotel selection. i dont seems to apply the same logic theer as its not a drop down and cant apply any filters. the reason i want textbox instead of drop down is because each hotel will have only 1 address. anyway to address this?

Actually i tried changing the default value of the texbox to look into the datasource and applied filters - all works great. Except when i change the value in the hotel field (the value doesnt change) or insert another section (in the repeating table) - the value in the address textbox gets carried over from previous section. any ideas?

    Hi Soham Bhatt,

Take the Expression box instead of text box and put the condition just like the condition put in the drop down. You will get the result what ever you want.

    Hope this will help you.
