Re: AD Service: How-To Set Field to GetMyInfo Result

Qdabra's AD Service now has a method GetManagerAlias that accepts an employee alias as a parameter and returns the alias of their manager, if there is a manager assigned to them. This can be used to retrieve the manager's information and get their e-mail address.  It's possible that this can't be accomplished using SharePoint's UserProfileService, but I can't say that with 100% certainty as I have not used it.

    Hi Kyle,

Sorry for delay in responding. I was on vacation last week. Maybe you already figured out the issue. So, you're using the SharePoint web service method to get the user name. Sounds good. However, this post talks about our Active Directory web service which is different from SharePoint's. I'm not sure if SharePoint provides the manager support or not. Our's does (see above post from Jimmy).

    Cheers

    Thanks ya'll

After reading about your AD web service, sounds like it would be a good optoin. I will continue to investigate how that might help us.

I was able to accomplish the goal of getting the supervisor's email by concatinating a substring of the Manager and our email domain, like so: concat(substring-after(Value[Name = "Manager"], "\"), "@clydeinc.com"). not to shabby for a novice eh?

Another questoin is, we would like to create a form and make it available to HR so as to allow them to create users in AD. This form would have to make a round trip or two to AD so they can choose a valid username. Do you know of any way to accomplish that without purchasing your AD web service product?

    Hi,

If you're using DBXL, you'll find step by step instructions here. If you're using the Active Directory standalone tool, you can read the steps here.

Let us know if these documents fail to clarify the issue. Thanks!
