Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

I think I am close to getting this to work, can someone look it over and tell me what I did wrong. When the form is initially opened, it will display the child info, just as if the + button was pressed. When the + is pressed, it will display the child headers. When the - button is then pressed, it will remove the headers. All of the child data always remains on the page. When I put a rule to hide the 3rd Section(Child Data), it works properly besides it only displays the first item and not all child items.

I don't see any rules on the section that I think is the one with the child data in it - so there are no rules to hide that data. I do see a rule on the column headings, to hide that if the hide or show button are pressed.

Re: Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

Firstly, I want to say THANK YOU! I initially was stuck on the 1st part of the 2-28-13 webinar which I bought, with some help on here I was able to resolve that. Though in the 1st section of the webinar package there is one error on the UPDATE/ADD rules, which I had pointed out a while ago. I re-downloaded it yesterday to see if it was updated and it was not, though it should be. The part I was stuck on was the very end of the instructional, as the wording was not very descriptive/easy to understand. I have done a lot of print designing, work instructions and the like, so that section should be updated too. All of this in my opinion of course.

So, with Part 2(dashboard) of the webinar, I pretty much went through the instructions and used the template provided. I didn't completely do the Hyperlink section, or I should say I did, then removed some of it. Though it hasn't worked either way. There is not a rule in the instructional to add to the child section, which I thought was weird too. I then added a rule to hide it, when I did this, it would only show the 1st item of the child data and not all of the repeating data. Without the rule it does show all repeating data. I am not sure why it doesn't work properly with the rule.

I am going to start over on this tonight at work and upload the form when I get it done. Again, THANK YOU for your response.

Re: Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

Ok, so I did get some time now to go through this. I had some problems with my 3D printer that need some attention first.

I attached the new form along with screen shots of what the form does with and without the Hide Rule for the Child Section.

I am still having an issue linking the Part Number link to the actual form, but I am going to keep trying to work on that, doesn't seem as though the Instructional formula is working for me. I currently just have some text in the link that is kinda what the link should be, so I know the way it is it definitely won't work. My main concern is just getting the child info to show up correctly and I just don't understand why it doesn't work properly with the Rule in there.

    Thanks ahead of time!

...guess I can't upload multiple files, will attach the screen shots to another reply.

How odd - everything looks right. I don't understand how the hide rule is causing this - both screenshots are the same form, just with no rule?

Re: Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

Yes this is very odd. The form I attached was with the rule in place for the child data. But, yes the screenshots are that form, one with the rule and one without.

Like I had stated, this is directly from the Webinar I bought from Qdabra. In those instructions it doesn't even have the child hide rule. Like I stated, I do not have the link working for each part number to link to their form in the form library, but not sure why that would have an effect on this. I also had to add in a GetDOM formula to pull the description and supplier info correctly as it was displaying the info from the very first part number in the list. For instance, the form had "First Part" and "13" displayed for each part number, by just binding them directly to the corresponding fields in the Form Library data connection. Though, this alteration had no effect before and after I added it.

    Any ideas at all?

This week as I get time(as infopath and sharepoint aren't a part of my job description), I am going to go back and completely redo the submit/CAML part of this process to ensure it is 100% correct. But, as it is pulling the info correctly before adding the Hide rule, I am pretty sure that I will have the same results afterwards. There is one thing I know I need to change, and that is the name of the forms. Currently I just have them named by the part number, like 123456.xml instead of using a detailed name with a time stamp, etc.

    Thanks again for your time!

So - if you go and remove the "Hide" rule on the section with the detailed data - the form will display the correct data in each section?

Oh - are your screenshots from preview? Or from the browser? Does the issue happen in both preview & the browser?

Re: Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

Without the rule it shows all revisions of the parts, like in the screen shots above. With the rule, it only displays the first revision.

I sure wish it was only in preview, but it is the same in both views.

I deleted everything from the form and list and reentered some information. I attached screen shots of the Form, List and the Dashboard views. All from the browser. I am working on a Surface Pro 3 right now, but get the same results when trying to view them on other machines.

The reason I asked about browser vs. filler is that I recall there being a browser bug related to hyperlinks when there are multiple instances of the same repeating group on the form. But since you have the exact same issue in filler (preview), that isn't it. :)

Re: Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

So, I assume then that you are not sure why this is not working? Is there anyway that this issue can be show to Patrick Halstead, as he is the one who wrote this instructional?

I was thinking about signing up for one of the service plans when I was having an issue getting the data to populate the child list correctly, but with some help I was able to get that working, obviously. But, with this issue, it should work as it is. That is my conclusion, though I have limited experience (so far) with InfoPath.

Any final suggestions before I start over from page one on the first section of the webinar? ...though I can't see getting any other results from the dashboard by changing the couple things I need to change to have it match more exactly what the webinar said.

Either way, thanks for your help in this matter!

Right - I don't know why this isn't working. The symptoms as you describe them are very odd, and looking at the form I don't see anything wrong. I've forwarded your most recent post to Patrick to see if he has any insight. I also emailed you via the form to see about getting your list templates so I can set this up in my enviro and see if I can repro it.

Only the first instance of HideShow for each Part Number is being set when the button is clicked. I'm pretty sure we can work around this with a slightly more sophisticated expression for the formatting - give me a few minutes and I'll have something for you to try.

Re: Repeating Data Form/List Display in Dashboard Problem

Change the condition on the section that has your "child" data in it. Modify the first dropdown to "The expression" and then delete anything currently in the text box next to it - then put in:

    count(../d:SharePointListItem_RW[d:PartNumber = current()/d:PartNumber and d:HideShow = 1]) = 0

I'm attaching a copy of your form with this change in place for you to try.
