Creating a new record in edit mode?

    Hi,

Has anyone created a new SharePoint list item from an edited item?  My form is in InfoPath and has 2 views. One is for adding a new item to the list. The second view opens when you edit the item.  I would like to make changes to the data and create a brand new record and leave the original item intact.

I've tried a number of things without success. This needs to be an out of the box solution, which as many of you know, could mean putting a square peg in a round hole. I can't create a new item from the workflow, because then it would be trying to run the workflow twice (runs when an item is created or changed).

I thought about writing the data to a temporary list and then moving it to existing list. But it would get pretty convoluted to say the least.

     Any ideas/assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Drew

     Hi Drew,

There are two options for running a workflow automatically: run when created, and run when changed.  What about deselecting the "run when created" option? That way the workflow would only run on existing items, which is what you want. Does that make sense?
