Exporting to PDF from InfoPath 2007

Have any of you had success with the Export to PDF feature in InfoPath 2007?

When I export to a PDF file, Adobe Acrobat sizes everything a lot bigger, inserts page breaks in strange places, and ignores page margins.

    I am using InfoPath 2007 and Adobe Acrobat 8. I am using Microsoft's export/save to PDF plug-in.

Has anyone found any tricks for making it look normal in Adobe Acrobat after an export?

If you're just looking to open and read in Acrobat, I would think that the File -> Print, and then choose Adobe Acrobat printer would work decently. Is this what you're doing?

Thanks for your response. I am using the "Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS" plug-in available here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4D951911-3E7E-4AE6-B059-A2E79ED87041&displaylang=en

I don't see any options in InfoPath 2007 to print to Adobe Acrobat. What should I do to make that option available?

After installing the plug-in the option appears in the File menu under Export To.

Note: you might have to close all instances of InfoPath and restart, or restart your computer to see the change.

Hello. I have the same problem. I have created a form that I need to export/save as PDF so that other people can use this as a dynamic form in Adobe.

I have installed the saveasprinter file, but it does not show up in the "Export form" menu. Any ideas?

I saw the problem after installing and using the plug-in.
Printing to a PDF file works fine, exporting doesn't. I think it's just a bug in the plug-in.

Too bad. Printing to PDF does not make the form dynamic, but only prints the current form. Other users also have to install InfoPath then to get this to work. Is it any solution for this in InfoPath 2003?

    Hi AngelDust,
There may be an export tool out there or Adobe may be in the process of making one. You should search the Web. With InfoPath 2007 there is new Export plug-in support. I'm assuming that's what Tmmycat05 was referring to above, but not sure.

I agree, it would be nice if the "export to PDF" feature worked better...
I was technically able to export to a PDF file, sure, but the page breaks and sizing were so different in the exported version that the feature was basically useless...
    I haven't used InfoPath 2003, just InfoPath 2007, so I can't answer your question...sorry...

This means that InfoPath cannot be used to design a PDF form at this point, too bad.

Re: Exporting to PDF from InfoPath 2007

I'm having the same problem using the "Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS" plug-in. I don't have page breaks, but the page size dimensions of the PDF file are not what I expect (sizing is different). Printing one of these PDF's has to be done in landscape (due to the excess width), but the form can be printed in portrait (I want portrait).

I'm having trouble deciding what my best option would be from here (to get a decent PDF export of a "print view" form).

    Hi Eamon,

    Couple questions:

    • Are you trying to print the saved PDF file from Acrobat? What is the tool you are using?
    • You seem to say that the printing has to be done in landscape but that you want portrait. Are you saying that you can't figure out a way to scale the size down so that it prints portrait?

    Thanks

Re: Exporting to PDF from InfoPath 2007

    Hi Patrick

    Thanks for the reply.

I have two machines, one with Adobe Reader 8, the other with Adobe Reader 5. I'm not sure that's the factor though, as I have the add-in installed on each machine, and have opened the same InfoPath form and exported to PDF on each machine, only to have the PDF's turn out different: differing page-size, plus on one document a page break is inserted (no page breaks are defined in the InfoPath form on any of my views). Viewing these PDF's on any other machine (with Adobe Reader) has them looking the same as they do on the machine they were exported on.

Both machines have Microsoft Office 2007 (InfoPath 2007), with the same PDF + XPS Microsoft add-in.

On another separate user machine, an exported PDF was printed in landscape (without changing any print settings). However, every export to PDF of the same InfoPath form prints in portrait when I run through the exercise. Comparing the PDF that printed in landscape to one that printed in portrait shows no difference in the page size of the documents - 9.84 x 10.00 in (250mm x 254.06mm). Different printers/print drivers though, so that might be the only issue there.

I don't know of a way to scale the size of a PDF document. In my scenario, multiple PDF's will be created daily (half-dozen, dozen perhaps), so having a situation where the PDF had to be manipulated post-export wouldn't be ideal.

    Thanks for your help.
