    Slow form

We are using a infopath form to have employees do their time cards.

The form is pretty simple but has 3 data sources that look back to our SPS site for a list. A couple of these lists are big.

The form (see http://www.bojik.com/Time-sheet.pdf) loads into infopath pretty quick but as the user adds new entry lines (see http://www.bojik.com/Time-sheet2.pdf)the form slows down to crawl.

It takes about 3 to 5 seconds to add a new line if there are more than 20 lines and gets slower the more that are added.

The pull down lists also slow down to a point that the person who enters the cost codes (witch is done after the form is submitted for review so all lines are added) has to pull the list, select the cost code and then do somthing else as it takes 20 seconds +.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Read the following article, it will give you some insight into how to improve performance -http://msdn.microsoft.com/office/understanding/infopath/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/odc_ip2003_ta/html/officeinfopathtroubleshootperformancebestpracticeguidelines.asp

As well, how are you accessing your data? Webservice? Direct DB connection? Have you queried the data outside of InfoPath to ensure that it is snappy?

I can use a db, perferred, but I cannot get a straight answer on how to allow users access sql data for a infopath form through the internet. I have tried to use webservice but all of the info I have to set it up has been cloudy at best.
I started with a sql db and it di work great within the office, since I could not access out of the office I do not know of it's performance. I even hired a local company, one of the companies that microsoft lists as being an expert at everthing. I called them and went through the hassles of setting up an account with them and when I got to a "tech guy" he said that he has never done anything with infopath and he would need to do some reasearch, at $189/hr.

So I am using sps lists for now till I find good complete directions on setting up a webservice and linking it to my sql db.

Almost forgot, thanks for the reply, I will look at that link now.

I highly recommend as a best practice to use webserivces as your facility to get data.

    Check out these labs:

    They will help...

    Hi ContractOne,
Have you tried installing our Database Accelerator? It's a Web service that many people have downloaded and deployed to ease integration of InfoPath forms with SQL databases. Go to Downloads->Free and click on the links.
