Repeating table... Repeating headers across pages?

    Hi there,

Does anyone know how I can add the header again after a automatic page break has occured when printing? Im new to this.

At the moment the table just runs across the page breaks with no headings and is confusing to say the least.

Also could anyone recommend a good book for a beginner in infopath. I am a Visual Studio .NET developer and I know a small amout about XML and XPATH.

    Thanks!

    Hi Adam,

    Welcome on board!

Yes It's one big probleme of infopath it is not making for print the form. And this type of things is not possible

The better way is make an XSL transformation to another format! for example pdf, word, openoffice,...

or you have the tools for convert your infopath form to word but that don't work very good!

For the book, you have a list here:

Personnaly, if you are looking for a book with more advanced InfoPath topics, examples, and help then Developing Solutions with Microsoft InfoPath is the one for you! Congratulations to co-author Patrick Halstead, co-owner of the InfoPath Dev web site, on publishing his first book.

    Hey,

Thanks for your swift reply! I have ordered the book and I'm looking forwards to reading it! I think ill get some web services going and get some output forms developed then if thats the case.

Just a side question... Will this feature be implemented at a later date because I would think it is very helpful?

    Thanks

    Adam,

Another (and I think easier) solution to this problem uses JScript and a nested DOM structure to accomplish the same thing (albeit, losing a lot of performance). To get started check out this threadhttp://www.infopathdev.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1076 and then stay tuned in the next couple of days for a new How-To article addressing this exact issue and explaining how to repeat table headers across pages.

    Hi Matt,

I did actually see that one but my brain slid out of my ear looking at all that Java Script. Ill have a read then but im definately looking forwards to that topic!

Just a side thought... If I control the page breaks manually by using a repeating section with a page break at the top and a repeating table nested within the section too - when I make a new section it will put a page break in and a new table..

I tried this but it makes a copy of the previous section.. information and all! Just for the moment do you know how to make a 'default' section appear and not a copy of the previous section appear?

    Thanks!

Re: Repeating table... Repeating headers across pages?

If you are using JScript to clone the section and insert it you will want to use .cloneNode(false). The false means that you will be cloning without "deep" mode. However, when you clone using this method you will have to manually .appendChild() all of the children of the section that you want to see displayed. Alternatively, you can go ahead and use the .cloneNode(true), copy all substructures under the node you are cloning, and then overwrite all of the copied nodes (to blank if you like).

I think .cloneNode( true ) with overwrite would be a little easier because you will be doing less cloning and more read/write.

If you're not asking about copying using code, I'm not sure that I understand your question.

Re: Repeating table... Repeating headers across pages?

Im not talking about any code at the moment. I would rather leave it out if I can at the moment as I'm just starting. I mean having a repeating section with a nested page break and then my table with the header nested too... Then when the size of the page gets too big I can just click repeat section... I know its a bit lame but it will work until I have time to do some proper code.

The problem is when I click on the new section tab it clones the table structure nested inside it. Is there any way to just create a default instance with just the header and a blank row?

    Thanks for your time,

Not without using code. At least, not that I know of.

Hmmm... I think I'm confused, but I wonder if you could have a repeating section with a page break at the top. Each section has a repeating table bound to same location in schema but with different display offset (this might require some trickiness). Clicking the hack button just inserts another repeating section, page break, header and all. Not sure if this would work though.

I have posted an example of how to handle repeating headers across pages in a codeless way in here: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/post/21817.aspx
