    Conditional formating controls????

    Hello and thanks for reading,

I am relatively new on creating forms using InfoPath into SharePoint but have accomplished quite a bit. I have a field that has a function - Username() - that automatically puts the user ID into the form. For example it pulls my ID as "EN12345". Form is still in test phase but has been published to SharePoint. I do not want my users to be able to touch a couple of fields. I have played with Web Services (GetUserProfileService & GetGroups) but with no luck. Many users will be putting in requests using this form and I do not want them having access to (Assignee & Status). I have both fields placed in a section which I want to use conditional formatting. Question - I want to know how can I only allow SharePoint admin group I created to have access to these two fields? Please help

Is this a browser form? Or client?

If a client form, you may want to look into user roles.... but that won't return your SharePoint admin group. Perhaps you could add these same users to an AD group?

When you say you've had no luck with the web services, what do you mean? They don't return the data you expect? Or you aren't sure how to base your conditional formatting off what they return?

    Thanks for replying,

It is a web based form using Internet Explorer. Using GetUserProfileByName, I was able to set the conditional format to - If this condition is true - "All occurence of displayName/are not equal to/ "My Group Name" on "assignee" and "Status" field - Hide this Control. This allows only my members to modify those 2 fields. It WORKS but I do have a question. Putting these 2 fields in a section and giving the section the same condition does not work. Why? I wanted to hide the text for Assignee and Status. Thanks for your help.

Well, I'm sure it is no comfort to hear, but it should work. You should be able to use the condition drop downs and create the same condition on your section that you did on your fields....

If your section remains stubborn, I suppose you could use calculated values (IP 2007 expression boxes) for your field labels, and hide those, but again, the condition that works on the fields should work on a section as well......

Well believe it or not, it finally WORKED! Must have been "user error" lol

I am almost done with form (there will always be improvement) but I need to have a condition as in a Word document document in SharePoint. When a user opens the document, they are presented with the option at the top "To modify this document, click Edit Document". This allows many users to open a document but only one to make changes. In a web based form by Infopath, I believe you can only do a "checkout" but the other person still has the option to overwrite the file. There must be a way. Please help!

This final change showed be it! For now...
