I need to write a new value to a SharePoint List and I am doing this via a repeating form.

The problem is the user will not type this information in to the repeating table, I need it to be copied to the repeating table using a Rule.

Setting the value in a repeating table does not seem to work using Rules.

What am I missing?

You can set a value using xpath filtering on the row but the row has to exist. In addition the filtering can be tricky and doesn't work in all cases.

A simpler solution (which would also simplify your previous challenge) would be just to use qRules. qRules comes with a SubmitToSharePointList command as well as Insert and SetValue tha can be used all via rules.

Otherwise, please attach a sample XSN and we'll take a look over the weekend.

Thanks for offering to look at this. You and Hilary have been really helpful. When our budget is approved I am going to try and obtain a copy of qRules. InfoPath is a product with so much potential but is seems very immature in terms of functionality. I am hoping qRules will help us fix some of that.

I did download your sample which was brilliant but unfortunately does not seem to work in my case.

Because My Repeating Group (Table) is linked to an XML CAML data connection, the Default Value Function (Fx) button under the Data Tab is greyed out, not allowing me to add a formula such as substring-before(substring-after(concat(index = count(preceding-sibling::*[local-name() = "Field(XML_CAML_Read)"]), ThisPONumber, "true", ., "true"), "true"), "true")

Any other ideas, BTW you have a Typo "ue" instead of "True" in the example formula: substring-before(substring-after(concat(index = count(preceding-sibling::*[local-name() = "RepeatingGroup"]), NewValue, "true", ., "true"), "ue"), "true") - but it still works.

Yes, this is limitation of secondary data sources.

The "ue" thing is not a typo. It's a minimal set of chars allowing to distingiush True from False in this expression.
