    File Attachment Control

    Hi,

I have a number of File Attachment Controls.

I want to be able to allow certain users to attach documents, and other users to be able to view the documents, but not delete or edit them.

I have used conditional formatting and "disabled" the control.  But the users who need to look at the documents are unable to open them.  Is there any way of achieving what I want or is it a "step too far " for conditional formatting.

There is the "Allow the user to browse, delete and replace files" in the attachment properties but I don't suppose there is any way of setting this once the initiator has attached the files

    Thank you

    Hi Catharine,

You could use our File Picker Control and convert the attachments to links. The links just open the forms from DBXL directly. The File Picker control also has support for adding new file attachments and this is what you can conditionally hide. Check out Mel's blog on the Image Picker Control (which is basically the same) and let us know if you think this will work for you and we'll send you additional information on the File Picker. An added benefit is that the forms will open faster since the attachments will be replaced with links.

This might work for us.  I would like to test it.

There is an added complication - isn't there always.

File are added by the initiator.  Depending on values in the form other people (approvers) are given access (DBXL + contidional formatting).  (This is a complex formula/process with 250+ permutations).

If the files are considered sensitive only the approvers can see them but not edit/delete.  If the files are "normal" then anyone opening the form should be able to see them but not edit/delete them.

I am concerned about "unloading" the files into Sharepoint as the permissions which would need to be set on the SharePoint library would be very complex - Even if opening the infopath .xml is slow I know that the conditional formatting will stop the sensitve items being visible to the non approvers.
