    switching views

im trying to do a simple view switch based on the user role but cant seem to see where i get the condition set up.

ive got 2 views set up.

i go into tools > form options >  open and save  then 'rules'

i can set action to switch views but cant see how i set the condition as there is no access to a 'user role' option in the dropdown... i can only access the form fields or an expression / field or group

    how is this done?

Is your form set up for browser compatibility? User Roles are not compatible with Browser forms, unfortunately.

Here's an Office Online article on adding User Roles to your form, too.

    Hi Hilary,

I am also trying to solve similar kind for problem.

I have a form and need signature(s) for audit purpose. I have made two views with and without signature (text) boxes. I want to hide this signature section from general users. What would be the best way to do so. I am using InfoPath Form Services.

    Thank you,

Since we can't use user roles in browser forms, you'll need to take an alternate route. Here is one alternative, suggested by new MVP Clayton Cobb, and another from the InfoPath Team.

    Hi Hilary,

Thank you for the response; I tried Claton's method and it is working. I am hiding the approval section from general users. I want to print this section when ever user prints the forms, filled if it has been approved, blank other wise. How could I make this section show up in print (preview) even for general user?

    Thanks again,

I was looking to hide the section and only make it available while printing. Just did not wanted them wondering about the 'readonly' fields.

    Thanks for the direction. :)

Would a print view for the view take care of your requirements? You can controls as desired bound to your main data source fields.

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried print view but it did not show the hidden part while printing as general user.

with this modification when published it gives me message that it needs to be approved by administrator. I have its old version publised and it did not ask anything. How do i do that?

    Thanks,

Did you add code or something? Simply adding a print view shouldn't cause your form to require admin approval...

wow, that was a fast reply. thank you very much.

i added data connection for validating current user against the sharepoint user list.

Hmmmm. It also seems odd that just adding a data connection would make your form require admin approval. Try this -- under Tools, Form Options, Programming, see if the "Remove Code" button is enabled. If so, and if you didn't intentionally add code to your form, click it to remove any code, then see if you can publish.

That being said, these instructions explain how to admin deploy a form.

    Hi HIlary,

Thank you for the reply. No, the "Remove Code" button is disabled. I tried the instructions but while verifying/uploading it gives me error sayting that "the form template has not been correctly published to be browser-enabled. . . "

The difference I am seeing is, while publishing form, in 2nd or 3rd screen where it gives

ChkBox: Enable this form to be filled out by using a browser
What do you want to create or modify?
    Option 1: Document Library
Option 2: Site Content Type (advanced)
Option 3: Administrator-approved form template (advanced)

Only option 3 is enabled, the ChkBox is checked. It was not like that before.

    Any suggestion?

Did you change the trust settings accidentally in the Tools / Form Options / Security?

I don't know now but right now it is set to "Automatically determine security level (recommended)", other options are greyed out.
