    Shred Question

    Hi,

I have a question regarding the updating of the xml structure in InfoPath forms. Obviously there are changes made to forms as life progresses, my question is what happens with the forms that doesn’t have the updated xml elements in when QDABRA shreds them? Are they rejected?

    Example:

    Form 1 created Monday.

Tuesday we add fields and update DAT with latest version and mapping to DB What happens with form 1 when it needs to be shredded again to DB but doesn’t have the additional elements?

Background: We use forms services in MOSS to capture data and built a custom application that loops through SharePoint once a day to perform the shredding.

    Thanks, Neill

    Hi, Neill:

If an existing XML doesn't have an element that you have mapped in DAT, it simply won't provide the mapped column any data. So your new column that the new field maps to will have a NULL value for the rows associated with the forms that don't have the new field.

Thanks Hilary, so it won’t simply reject the old version of the xml because of the new elements not being present?

It certainly shouldn't, and in my experience, doesn't...

We have a tool that allows you to migrate document types and documents from one instance of DBXL to another. Find it here.

When moving an entire DBXL installation to another server, you can follow these steps:

    1) Restore the databases QdabraDBXL and QdabraSamples to the new location (or whatever you chose to name them)

    2) Install DBXL, pointing the installation to the restored databases.

    3) Open the DBXL Administration Tool (DAT) from the new server.

    4) Edit/Save each document type you have.  This is required so all the DBXL data connections in your templates get updated to reflect the new site url.
