    Generate unique number

    Beginner, using IP 2003

Used method described at http://bladah.com/?p=51, to get ID value from SharePoint library and add 1. This number used for file naming structure to ensure files not overwritten.

Problem: When existing form is opened for editing then re-submitted, max ID+1 applied and new file is created.

Goal: When form is submitted for the first time, max ID+1 is applied, when same form is later edited, max ID+1 not used.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    My boss thinks I'm smart.

I would be lost without this forum.

Hi there -- glad to know the forum is helpful for you!

Is the id stored in a form field? If so, you could set your submit to use rules, have the first rule set the id field if it is blank. Then, in your actual submit connection, you use that id field for the name of the form....

That was my first thought as well, and I swear to you I tried it 10 different ways, but it never worked. I thought I would try it one more time after reading your reply. Everything works fine now, I don’t know why. It shouldn’t, I didn’t do anything I haven’t tried a half dozen times before. With this last problem fixed, my form is now finished, and my boss thinks I am a computer genius.

    Thanks again.
