Performance problem with list datasource filters

    Hi,

I have a sharepoint list with fields as follows:Provider Name
    Address 1
    Address 2
    Address 3
    Address 4
    Address 5
    P
ost CodeI have added the list as a Data Connection to a web-enabled infopath form, which is then rendered by forms services.  In the form I have a dropdown list of Provider Names, bound to the data connection.  I also want to have read-only text fields for Address1..Address5 and Post Code, so that the user can see the details when they select the provider.  So, default values for each text box are set to use the same data connection, but with a filter of where the Provider Name in the data connection = the Provider Name in the dropdown. This mechanism worked well, until I added over 1,500 or so providers.  Then the Provider Name dropdown still runs fine, but the population of the extra text boxes is so slow that the browser (IE7) gives long-running script warnings! It used to run slow in the infopath preview as well until I added indexes onto the sharepoint list columns.  The native infopath preview is now perfectly fast, but the web version is still very, very slow.

So, any ideas as to how to achieve the same functionality but with better performance?  As I said, I have indexed the fields, and the preview in infopath is now nice and fast, but the web view is still baaaaaaaaad.

SharePoint version is 12.0.0.4518.  InfoPath client version is 12.0.4518.1014.

    Thanks,

    Craig

    Hi Craig,

You may want to try our QuerySharePoint Web Service:

    Video: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/video_demos/entry39774.aspx
    User manual: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/sharepoint/entry33873.aspx
    Performance data: http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/ernesto/archive/2009/01/07/dbxl-v2-3-performance-analysis.aspx

The benefits of QuerySharePoint Web Service are:

Performance: The Web service executes the filter on the server and only sends you the matches
Quick and Easy: Use our Query Builder Tool to build your queries
Low Cost: No need to write and maintain code

This Web Service is available in package with Qdabra DBXL and WSSP which you can download on a free trial basis at Qdabra.com. You can check out on our download page here.

There is place "Configure InfoPath Forms Services" in admin site where you can allocate more memory for session state.

that link might be helpful too:

Thanks guys.  After looking at the page source, I ended up moving to a more C#/VSTA based approach, to minimuse browser-side processing, which seems to have worked.
