How to protect a form from unauthorised changes, or save as

    Hilary, or someone,

I would like to know what I can use to "write protect" or prohibit "save as " in a completed form.

I gave looked the Tools / Form Options/ Enable protection  , it is weak.  As I have said in earlier posts.

Yesterday I had a look at Rights Management.
I am not sure how to get a user authority to open the form and save the view form, let alone print it,
and prohibit/ rstrict their ability to open the form in Design mode.

It seems there is no protection at all!!!!

So can anyone provide the clues, or solution??
Your timely response would be most appreciated.

    Hi, Ian:

Wish I had better news for your, but I do not know a way to restrict form design to the extent you wish to do it. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas to share....

    Hi Ian,

I assume you are talking about the XSN file... To prevent read access to the form's XSN you will want to Enable Protection but then also lock down the permissions of the XSN on the server where you are saving it. In other words, publish to SharePoint or some other Web Server and lock the permissions down on that site. On a SharePoint site (MOSS 2007), click the XSN file and changing permissions. If you aren't using MOSS, you should be able to do the same thing using Windows File System by right clicking and setting permissions. You can also lock down access using DBXL.

However, InfoPath will cache the XSN on the local computer. So, the user could find the XSN and crack it open and look at it in the InfoPath designer. To prevent that, you could stick to browser forms (using MOSS 2007).

    There are solutions.

    Hi also Patrick,

I am not familiar with MOSS.  let alone MOSS 2007.  I shall investigate tomorrow. And advise in this Thread.

And thanks also Hilary for replying.

    Cheers

Looking at the MOSS title, I cannot see how it (Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server) would be of any use to prevent a user from getting into design mode, when the system is loaded onton their computer. And/ or they transfer the system themselves later on!

I have yet to look into the IRM.

    Hi Ian,

You can set library and document permissions in MOSS.

    Hi Ian,

You can use Information RIghts Management on your Sharepoint library and in your network files. Please note these are separate installations. This will serve up some of the protection you are looking for. When you have IRM on Sharepoint, the security you set on your form library travels with your form no matter where it goes. On your network files, you can prevent users from copying, printing, and using Save or SaveAs. About the only thing you can not prevent them from doing is screen scraping with a third party product (i.e, not Microsoft). Also, licensing for IRM is reletively inexpensive. Hope that helps.

Re: How to protect a form from unauthorised changes, or save as

    Thanks for the information Janice,

But, as you state the IRM only seems to limit users from copying, printing Saving and SaveAs.  And the cost seems to be prohibitive.

I experimetned with  the "Enable Protection"  along with  Tools/Customise menu commands.

I deleted all the sensitive commands, saved and closed the file, reopend in Right-Mouse click Design mode, the warning came up, but the hidden buttons seems to limit the user.

So if the right-mouse click "Design " could be disbaled that would be great!!

If I am wrong,  or you can provide more information it would be most welcome.

I have set up a InfoPath menu to link the users to the program.  KISS.  I am out of any others clues

    Hi Patrick,

How do I use MOSS with a system that probably will not be distributed over the Internet or Intranet.

    If the client has any.

Janice Thorn says the IRM is expensive. That is a deterrent to using it.

Please see my comments above and an earlier posting today.

I have managed to avoid using SharePoint.  I guess I will have to commit myself, oneday.

Re: How to protect a form from unauthorised changes, or save as

I have the same problem. I use office 365 (enterprise E3) and InfoPath 13. I want to send the InfoPath templates I designed for my users but I don't want them to edit them using the InfoPath designer. At the moment any user who has InfoPath designer can open my template modify as they wish. This stops us from using InfoPath as a corporate form template. Also we want this to be available to users outside our organization who has valid InfoPath licence to use the templates to submit data but they should not be able to change the design. How can I do this with InfoPath 2013?
