When a field contains data, I want to automatically tick a checkbox

I have a form that is used to submit data to an SQL database. The same fields are used to show the data of a form already saved in the database. Now, what I am trying to do is, when I retrieve data for a certain form, I want to automatically check (tick) a checkbox if a certain field is not blank. I have set the conditions and rules to set a field's value (the checkbox's value) to TRUE (as well as 1) but the checkbox does not automatically get ticked. The data type of the check box is Boolean. What I observed however was that if the field that I am checking is not blank and if I check the checkbox, I cannot uncheck it (which probably means that the rule is working fine - althouh some action from my part is needed to trigger it off) I would really appreciate any help to resolve this.

    Hello,

I am attaching a sample with a simple example of what I think you are trying to accomplish. I use the functions false() and true() when setting Boolean fields. Please look at the attachment and let me know if I can clarify anything else.

    Hi Ernesto!

Thanks for your reply.  However, I couldnt open the file as I am running Infopath 2003.  Can you send me a compatible version for Infopath 2003?

     Thanks!

    Reattaching as 2003 compatible. :)

Instead of using the word "true" or the number "1," use the function true() if it's available in 2003.  I only use 2007, and this is what you use there - true() or false() - but I'm not sure about 2003.  I used to try to put in the text, and it would only work if I got the exact syntax correct (it's case-sensitive), but then I learned about those functions that truly set it to true or false instead of the text.
