Hello Googono2, For what I underestand. You want to create the user interface via Infopath and export "the look and feel" into SharePoint. Why not use form services?

On your code have you try if(thefield != null) { //do something } ?  

You would be able to do it with code behind.

You could add another field and associated with the lawyers name. Do the lawyers name reside on a Sharepoint list, or AD?

On the form does the lawyers name display? How about the month?   If it does than you could use that as the name when you save.

The problem is that you are using now(). So everytime you resubmit a new one gets created. Since now() will always be different.   You want to use something unique for that specific form a field on the form. If you send me the form I could guide you.    

The answer is Yes. When the user submits the first time I assume the data is been save to the list?  Example. gets save as "Test1" . Next time you open the same form it should have the values from previous + the text that is going to get appended to the field. Once it gets submitted again you would need to override ...

If it worked before and after publishing the new xsn stop working is most probably a cache issue. Take a look at the version numbers and see if there is a difference.

If you are not using form services try to update the template. OPen the xsn on the device having the diffilcultie in design mode. -- > File --> Fill out Form -- > Select the name of the form on the center screen.

You would need to create a WF in either SharePoint Designer or VS 2008. Out of the box not sure you could do this.
