 Interesting idea, I'll see if I can make that work, though I don't think it will be any less work but learning a new technique is always helpful. I was just playing with the check in check out button data connection library last week so this dovetails nicely.

 Oh I see what you meant now, no I don't believe there is a codeless way to do what your asking, the form logic hasn't been done on existing forms although they would update to the new formula when you opened them. Did you try the relink documents action?

 You've ruled out a syntax error on the concatenation function? The only other thing could be informalname isn't being populated, you didn't mention how you got the informalname value.
