I am trying to do something similar to this click here - utilizing secondary datasource in InfoPath, however in C#. I found another article that connect the secondary data source to a webservice - quite helpful but I still couldn't get around to making it work properly.

Hi all.
I have ran into a calculation problem that only happens if the form is displayed in a browser.
If the form is displayed by Infopath 2007 client, everything is okay.
Below is a simplied version of the form I am working on.
The form contains the following main data source:
-myFields (root)
-expenses (group)

I have a pull down control that sets an attribute's value based on the selection. This attrribute is referenced by a hyperlink.
Example: If "Apples" is selected in the pull down, a rule tells the link to point to an apples website. If "Oranges" is selected in the pull down, a rule tells the link to point to an oranges ...

I would assume you would have the SQL data in a secondary data connection.
You would do a filter on the SQL data and check your field validation.
This would be a conditional rule, probably triggered by entry in the control in the form where the user would enter.
If true then it would set your status field to "flagged" or whatever and ...

The code reads the node from sampledata.xml, which contain all default values (= templated?). But its possible to change the code, so instead of reading a node from sampledata it can read a node from the maindom and clone it. It doesnt matter what if its the last or not. This can be done pretty easily with a database type form.
Create a new form and select database in the wizard.
Select the customer table and add the location table as a child.
This will build a form which can query the records as you desire.
Play with the default form so you understand the process.
Than add your secondary DC of the IDs and ...

Thanks Albert!
A common desire is to insert a row templated from an existing row. So copy a row and then insert a clone to reduce the data entry. Would it be the last record or could you specify the sample row?
Could your code be used for this? Maybe you could explain as this would help others.

Unfortunately No.
You can not preview with a browser.
In the next release the admin publish process will be expanded to make it less intensive but for now get admin rights to publish forms on a test site.
Not a lot of options for code debugging.
I have also found that you may need VS on the SP box to completely debug a browser form's code.

You can do this if you are using code, there are afaik three appoaches:
Start with everything and delete everything that not has a value when you save the form
Start with nothing and add the fields you need.
Ignore the empty field and/or look at the xsi-nil="true" property
Approach 1 is default in InfoPath. I never did ...

SharePoint cannot support relational data so promoted properties cannot be repeating. A database is what to use for building relational tables.
For your webservice, it needs to be able to support submit. You would need to research it and how to pass data to it.
If you need some prebuilt, generic web services to dynamically query and ...
