Hi,
Select existing data connection and click on the Modify. Check newly added field checkbox (Do not touch other fields). Click on next button two times and finish.
This is worked for me. I hope this will help you.

I verified your demo. Actually, this is working correct in the Infopath2003 machine. I also faced same issue in infopath2007 machine.In infopath2007, Xml file is showing as “participants” instead of “participants.xml” in the resource files.
Here you have two options.
Extract your template into one folder before updating the xml ...

1. Can you verify below steps.
Open form in design mode.
Select Tools à Resource Files.
Click on add button and select your xml file.
Select “Replace the existing file” option.
Click on ok.
Note: Make sure your new xml file and already added xml file name should be same.
2. Otherwise extract you template into one ...

We can modify the resource files in infopath itseif.
1.Open infopath in design mode.
2.Go to Tools->Resource Files.
3.Remove the existing customers.xml file and add the latest customers.xml file.
4.Save the form.
