I'm confused. I thought you said some other consultant wrote your AD web service, but you just said that you wrote it yourself? Reconcile that for me, please. Maybe you meant to say you wrote the workflow.
loginName is not a parameter that I've ever seen and is not what SharePoint uses to reference a ...

You should probably use data validation and use a regular expression to give a validation error if they include characters you won't accept. I've attached a simple sample xsn to this post that might help you. You can right click and select save as to save locally, then right click the file and open in design mode to preview. Let me know if ...

Thanks Clayton.
It was built in SPD and regarding loginName, it is not in the web service. I wrote the web service my self and have searched the source to make sure I didn't use that name for a parameter or variable. Check this link - apparently it's not just me: ...

What does your code look like? Did you remeber to put a space between the end of the first string and the start of the second? That is, you aren't concating something like "....2003/ado/dataFields\"" + "xmlns:my.....", right? 'cause we need a space between the close quote of the url and the next xmlns....

Ok, sharePoint doesn't use distribution lists. It only uses Security Groups, which many people mistake for distribution lists, because they behave like DLs (they can have email addresses and users). The "sync" with SharePoint groups is nothing more than adding an AD group to a SharePoint group. That way, the AD ...

Depends on what the workflow was built in. OOTB, SPD, VS?
It's apparently relevant to the loginName parameter that inveitably comes from the custom web service (such a shame when it's freely available otherwise). If you can't end up debugging the workflow, though I believe you can, you can try playing with that node from ...

This attribute is dynamically set in the code based on the namespaces. I am using VS 2003 and I need to break up the following line of code - because a line cannot contain over 2048 characters.
What I have done is done string concatination and broke it up into 2 lines. Now, when I try to build the solution, I get an error stating ...

I just checked with our AD guys and the group i need is a distribution list that is synced to a sharepoint group (not sure how exactly they work that), So i'll need to check against sharepoint group. I was advised to use "GetUserCollectionFromGroup" webservice to achieve this but when i make a connection to the webservice, it ...

Thanks again for the help and your advice.
I solved the issue by recreating the data connection and converting it again.
Now when I create the form to kick off the workflow I get this:
Error assigning role to an item. The parameter loginName cannot be empty or bigger than 251 characters.
Hmmm. The workflow executes to the point where it ...

While that might work for spaces, what about all the different characters i don't want? I'm afraid of how messy it can get f I have to remove all those special characters 1 by 1.
Just noticed your edit note. I guess i will have to keep waiting and see if anyone has any ideas for preventing characters. Like an & sign ...
