you can set the value of a field to another field not the name of a field to another field. Changing the field name amounts to changing the schema of the form, which i dont think is possible

Through trial and error and combining multiple posts together on this subject, I actually managed to create the formula to work with the drop down lists that use a secondary source...and it worked! Yeh!!!!
As for the manually populated ddl, I guess I will just retype the Value to equal the Display Name. Thanks ...

i never had such kind of issue, but i think publishing the form again should not be much of an issue. why dont you checkout that option

Have you seen this link? The replier suggests:
The problem is due to the fact that the xml is launched from the user’s local cache, which is NOT a trusted site, thus making the contact selector un-usable.
I don't know if that is the case in your scenario, but might be something worth investigating?
