I'm not a database expert, and know practically nothing of Access, however in SQL I believe you can write a trigger to copy out the previous row data when changes are made. Perhaps Access has something like that you can do?

Can the following code be applied to Infopath when it's linked to Access in the back-end. For example: anytime I submit a change to a record in Infopath, can the pre-update record be copied to a historical table.

I think u just need to put a rule on the textbox,to select a value from the dropdown and on the basis of that populate textbox value from the secondary data connection,which in your case is list.If u still face some problem just let me know.

If you don't want the workflow to run every time it is edited, then why is the workflow set to run on edit? You have to decide how the workflow is supposed to work. Should that setting be changed? When do you actually want it to run?
