Jason and Padraig, it works if you build it properly.  You have to set the field's default value and reference the SharePoint node that you want it to populate it with and apply a filter that sets the SP field to the field bound to your dropdown.  When you do it within a repeating table like that, it adds the current() function so that ...

Well, InfoPath is a Microsoft Office client - it's not a development tool, per se.  If Office is not allowed in a production environment, then you have much bigger issues than deployment, hah.  As for coded application, that's easy - you just package it into a solution and send it to the farm admin who deploys it in Central ...

No, don't create fields to display the data.  Just drag the repeating group from the dataFields portion of your web service to the canvas and let it auto-create a repeating table.  This table will display your data automatically.

That doesn't work with the publishing wizard. When I put in the URL of a different server ( that's not in the same domain as my developement machine) the wizard errors out because it's trying to connect to the URL of the path I put in. Which is what I would expect.  You see what I'm saying?
