MOSS is already aware of AD unless you aren't using AD for your permissions. If you are getting that behavior, then you probably have your syntax slightly incorrect. I made a tiny error and had the same symptons, but I eventually found that I had one letter capitalized improperly.
Could you attach your XSN?

If you set it up right, the Contact Selector does work. What you've listed here is way way off base from what you should be doing. You don't edit the DIP within a built-in content type for a doc lib to do any of this.
Create a form library and don't mess with it. Create an InfoPath form template from scratch and ...

For others who read this, the UserProfileService is MOSS-only and not available in WSS 3.0. It's because there is no SSP in WSS 3.0, and the SSP is what exposes the web service.

Can you not base it off the individual's username or group membership by using User Roles or something to that effect?
I am not sure what variables you're trying to match in relation to Workflow ID.

Ian, I still feel the same way, and I believe others here do, too, but I don't speak for them. You have created an abomination that needs some serious attention. This cannot be fixed by asking for free help on a forum with all these different posts. We can't see the form, don't have the form template, and don't ...

If there were such a thing, you don't think I would have suggested it? I find the reply a bit contemptuous and ungrateful after all the time spent trying to help you. You aren't obligated to do anything, and the ADWS only costs $299 or something. That's extremely cheap for such great functionality, but I guess if you ...

Ok, I'm a local admin on the WFE, so I was able to modify the zone settings. It worked perfectly with the site in Local Intranet.
This will be a definite issue not only here but with other clients. Has there been any thought or work put into figuring out how to still get it to work in the Trusted zone for those who will have no ...

Bah! Those settings are controlled and restricted via Group Policy. I will go onto the server to see if I can work around it, but that would only be a temporary bandaid, because the group policy would get in the way for future production use...

1) Started by previewing but then saw the requirement for it to be published and still got the error.
2) It is a Trusted Site, so I will change and check.
3) The URL is a copy and paste from the address bar when browsed to the doc lib
4) Blank template was created without checking the box for browser-enabling, and the form is in rich ...
