InfoPath Dev

Hello All,

I have an InfoPath form that users fills in.

Is there any way to open a new text box (or whatever) and populate it with the name of the direct manager property in Active Directory of the user who is filling out the form?

I guess that there is a way to get it with a Web Service.

if someone knows how to do it, i will be very thankful.

Hey Tal.

It sounds like you are familiar with the manager data stored in AD. You can get the manager's name real easy. In some cases I have stored the manager's alias as well in a custom field.

I do this query frequently with the Active Directory web service without any code or anything.

There are other methods of gaining access, using code or other services, but they are either complex or do not get the complete span of information.

Well, i am not SO familier with Web Services but i do familier with computers :)

Anyways, I did get the managers name but i get it in domain/username display.

The bottom line, i need to get the managers e-mail somehow.

I can't find a place that shows how to do it.

I am sure it's a common action that almost EVERYONE needs. getting the user managers name and email and sending e-mail to him.

Am i right? :)

If you get the manager's username, then you should be able to turn around and query AD again and this time for the manager's username instead of the username of the person opening the form.

That is how it works with our AD web service. Then you have the data for the manager. I also use it to get group membership information from AD.

I don't get it.

There is an EASY AND SIMPLE way to get User Managers email and other properties.

You only need to create a new Data Connection in InfoPath and Recieve data from Web Service and then on the path just to write: http://ServerName/_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx and then choose GetCommonManager and then filter the Data.

how come I didn't find ANYWHERE that posted it so easily?

I am trying to display the current user (from AD) in a comb box (plus additonal controls for department, telephone, etc) to allow users to select an alternative. For example, if I open the form, the combo box should default to my name, but I also want the ability to use a comob box to display a complete list of user names and select an alternative.

I have the same problem, I'm able to get the logged in user information through the DataConnection in Infopath and i'm storing it in test field as well as getting the Manager and the deprtment and all the other informtation. 

The problem is that i'm not able to get the list of all users in Active directory. I need to include "OnBehalf" feature which will let a user to fill an infopath document on behalf of anohter user.

Is there any detailed document which let me find the right way to implement the OnBehalf feature??

I'm trying to use the following webswervice :userprofileservice.asmx to get the users from WSS 3.0 Website and it is not working. I searched for the file on the server "userprofileservice.asmx" and i didn't fond it

When i call this webservice i get the following error :

For others who read this, the UserProfileService is MOSS-only and not available in WSS 3.0.  It's because there is no SSP in WSS 3.0, and the SSP is what exposes the web service.
