I want to guess something... is this in the browser?

Is there any chance at all that the repeating "Person" group is not included by default? If you look at the Data tab in the ribbon and open Default Values, you can find it and make sure it is checked. Sometimes you have to also check the defaults on a repeating section / table if the people picker is in there.

I've sent you an email via the forum - we can get something scheduled. :)

The code sample you posted:
//Load new workforce string into a temporary XML document
XmlDocument tempDoc = new XmlDocument();
tempDoc.LoadXml(workforceXml);
// Insert the new worker record into the main DOM.
XPathNavigator newWorker = tempDoc.CreateNavigator().SelectSingleNode("/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:Weekly_Hours", ...

Your approach should work - I'm guessing it is just something in your XPath filter. If you open up the formula editor for the sum formula and click the checkbox to display the XPath, what is the XPath?

Thanks - if you think of it, and it does it again, and you happen to notice when it does it again, I'd love to know.... Like I said, I've yet to track down when this happens & would love to find that pesky bug. Right now, the form I have where I see this happen, I check the drop down prior to publishing. Mine that does this is also a ...

So - newWorker is not null? The error message makes it sound like it is. Isn't your new XML just "d:Weekly_Hours"? If you run the code in debug and check the outer XML for tempDoc after loading it, what is the outer XML?

I'm dying to know when InfoPath does this and why. I've not yet found a pattern. Is your drop down bound to a field in your main data source or a secondary data source?

Check all your dropdowns / combo boxes. Do any of them have the unique items checkbox selected but nothing for the options? Sometimes if a drop down has lost it's settings for the data connection to provide the options but that checkbox is selected, I've had this error.
