It sounds like the size of the SharePoint list could be causing the issue. This is a known issue with InfoPath and SharePoint - InfoPath is actually unable to do any server side filtering of the SharePoint list which means that InfoPath will return the entire list from SharePoint as a secondary data source and then any filtering etc you ...
