Not sure - my post above used the Enter key usage as I displayed in []. Maybe it's the browser you are using? For me, all my replies auto being with a space at the start I have to delete. I'm using Firefox.

 ah, I'm sorry, I see what you mean now - the space appears in front of the control itself. And yes, I do see that too. Interesting. If I change the control back into a text control then the problem goes away, and if I delete the dash it also stops happening. Put any other character instead of the dash and it happens again. Ok, so the button outside the repeating section needs to build up the subject line from the fields within the repeating section. You can use 'double eval technique' to combine the fields in the repeating section. This post may help you with the double eval technique. http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/20875.aspx  

 But what do you want to have happen after the check? The answer is yes - but in context. Some situations it will only be possible in code. But if (for e.g.) you are wanting some other field (field B) to change it's value based on whether another field (field A) is currently 'invalid' then you could set up rules on field B to set ...

Would you be prepared to hack into the form template xsn file *every* time you need to republish it? The only way to have what you are requesting is a bit of a hack and Infopath automatically removes it *every* time the form template is published again. I can try explaining it in detail but it may be confusing. I am hoping to wrap it in a tool ...
