The difference in behavior you're seeing is expected. When you try to open an Excel file, it opens in Excel, and SharePoint locks it (checks it out).
When you try a Filler form, same thing, SharePoint checks it out (and warns any other users that try to open the same form).
What are you trying to accomplish? I don't yet understand the ...

Hi Philip,
Yes, you attached the XSN correctly. Thank you.
I guess I need to take a step back and gain a better understanding of the scenario. When I read "Render" I thought of the new command (RenderForm) included in qRules v4.3.
I see your form is using qRules v4.3, but I don't see the RenderForm command in the Logic Inspector. ...

Hi-
Hilary discusses using the queryFields as a filter in this blog post:

Hi Philip,
I'm sorry you've run into problems with this command.
This view that is being used by the Render command, the picture is included in the view using a file attachment control, within a repeating table - is this correct?
If you'd like, you can include attachments (screenshots, or even the form itself) via the Options tab ...

Hi Neil,
So if I understand the scenario correctly, you're doing something similar to this:
http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/qrules/entry58577.aspx
And this is working fine in Filler / Preview, but failing to work as expected in the browser.
Can you attach a screenshot (via the Options tab) of your form schema, showing the nested ...

Hi-
I don't believe FilterOwssvr is needed in this scenario. Since you're using InfoPath 2010 and ShP 2010, you can just set a queryfield (as a filtering parameter) then execute the secondary data connection the list. The returned data will be already filtered.
You can copy the secondary data source repeating data into the main data ...

Hi-
When you open an InfoPath client form from SharePoint, and someone else has it open, you receive a message letting you know and offering to open a read only copy.
This behavior does not occur with browser forms. This means that two people could open a browser form simultaneously, and overwrite each other's changes.
So that's where ...

Hi and welcome to the world of InfoPath.
We're discussing this same topic in another forum thread, so I'll direct you there. If the question/scenario is not the same, let us know.

You basically want a non-list form that submits to a form library and maps data to a list. This forum thread ...

Hi,
We’ve seen that SharePoint returns the date/time data like this:
2013-02-08T08:00:00
However, in order to submit the date/time data back into SharePoint, this format is NOT accepted.
The accepted formatting is:
2013-02-08 08:00:00
This means that the T is replaced with a space.
We typically add a second field (where the T is replaced ...

Yes, this is possible. You can do this via the default values. Here's a screenshot. Simply uncheck the repeating node and voila!
