    SubmitToSharePointList Question

I am using SubmitToSharePointList to create new items, with about 8 fields in each item. However, I also need to be able to edit these items. So when the ID of the item to edit is entered, I am using the default value properties fields to bring in the list information. I then allow the user to update the information, and I'd like to use SubmitToSharePointList to resave. Unfortunately it just doesn't seem to work correctly. I am not getting any error, and the success box is checked, but it does not save the edited information. I don't know if the default value is somehow overriding the newly edited information? The command is exactly the same as the successful command which creates the information, except that I've added the ID. Any ideas?

Hi - you would need to specify the list ID in your mapping (if you haven't).

You can do that in two ways:

    • Specify the xpath to the list ID field in your command, e.g. Command = SubmitToSharePointList /mapping=mapping /id=/my:myFields/my:ListID
    • Check the ID box in the mapping tool - under the second column that says Options (Show) - see screenshot...

    Hope it helps!

OK, I reworked it and am now getting a different error that revolves around dates. I can save to the date field in either a Date Only format or a Date and Time format. But when I grab that default date from SharePoint and try to save it back to the list unchanged I get an invalid date error. You helped me solve a similar issue when saving dates to a calendar list using the Format Date command. Is that my only option?

    Re: SubmitToSharePointList Question

    Hi,

We’ve seen that SharePoint returns the date/time data like this:

    2013-02-08T08:00:00

However, in order to submit the date/time data back into SharePoint, this format is NOT accepted.

    The accepted formatting is:

    2013-02-08 08:00:00

This means that the T is replaced with a space.

We typically add a second field (where the T is replaced with a space) and map this second field into the list.

    Hope this helps!

I had it working, made a few changes to the form, now all I get is the error that the form has validation errors and cannot submit. I cannot find any validation errors...

Use keyboard shortcuts to get the error info.

Navigate to next field that has an error.

    CTRL+SHIFT+O

Get error details for current field if it contains an error.

    CTRL+SHIFT+I

    Re: SubmitToSharePointList Question

I use those all the time - a lot of times, I'm working on forms that are in production. So, I like to preview my changes with existing XML - that way I can make sure I'm not creating any issues. Using Go To Next Error helps me find hidden validation errors. :)
